Hi! My name is Andre Gorostiaga. I’ve been teaching chess to youth and adults for nearly 5 years. I first learned how the pieces moved as a kid by playing against my grandfather during a trip to Argentina. It wasn’t until my graduating year of high school in 2016 that I became serious about chess. I became obsessed playing countless games versus my father and history teacher.
I compete in USCF rated tournaments as often as I can and always strive to become the best possible version of myself. I enjoy losing more than winning as there is more to learn when you lose.
Teaching Method:
I try to incorporate fun into my teaching whenever I can. Whether that’s cracking sarcastic jokes or being a silly-billy goofball I feel it creates a more memorable and enjoyable experience for both me and the student! Chess can be an extremely serious sport, but having fun is a high priority for me.
Specialties
Principles, Calculation, Openings, Psychology, Endgames, Attacking & Defending, Positive Attitude, Geometric Patterns, and having fun!
Playing Experience:
My official USCF rating is currently 1833. I’ve beaten and drawn multiple masters in classically rated games as well as unofficial blitz games. My online rating is currently above 2000. My goal is to reach at least 2200 online and 2200 USCF that way I can obtain my National Master Title. I try to compete in as many tournaments as I can to improve my skill and rating, but I’m also happy with how far I’ve come.
